Cash
rating – this
is the quality rating given by the manufacturer
i.e. it is their view on what cover an insurer
should be willing to give
• Valuables
cover -
as a guide insurers may typically give up to
10 times the cash rating for valuables i.e. £4k
cash rating will give up to £40k for valuables.
This may be less in commercial situations e.g.
Jewellers
• Quality -
The size of a safe has no bearing on its cash rating
i.e. rating is based upon quality of safe construction
measured against existing industry norms.
• Euro-Grade -
often referred to by insurers, relates to safes with
cash ratings from £6k to £100k that have
been independently tested at approved testing stations.

This
system was devised by the insurance industry to give
quality and rating consistency Europe-wide. Where
a safe has a Euro–grade rating all insurers
must give a minimum cover equal to the rating (they
may give more subject to additional security measures
in place e.g. alarms, grills, cctv etc.)
